Milan gallop racetrack: Marmiton wins the Premio Giulio Berlingieri
15 November 2014

The incessant rain and very heavy track did not put a brake on the horse belonging to the Czech stable Elecktomontaze – Wrestler and Pastoral Causeway were beaten – In the afternoon, a demonstration of hunting on horseback was held, the season was symbolically closed with a cannon shot by the Horseback Artillery Regiment – the last three races were cancelled due to the conditions of the track

MILAN – The horse from the Czech Republic Marmiton won the Premio Giulio Berlingieri at the Milan racetrack, Group 2 hurdle race, which cllosed the 2014 season at San Siro.  The race was run in prohibitive conditions, with a very heavy terrain caused by the incessant rain.

The race results were in line with the predictions made on the eve of the race, but only on the straight track close to the finish line did the horse entrusted to the jockey  Jan Faltejsek (one of the most expert in the world for hurdle races) succeed in breaking apart from his adversaries. After the withdrawal of Imperioso, one of the favorites, due to an imperfect physical condition, the eight participating horses ran a tight race, remaining practically always together in a group, also due to the weather conditions and the conditions of the track. At the half-way point of the track Pastoral Causeway attempted to break away a few meters but was reabsorbed after a few hudred meters.

Marmiton launched his attack slightly before the last curve and despite an uncertainty prior to the second to last hurdle, he passed Pastoral Causeway almost right away.  At the start of the final straight track before the finish line, Faltejsek called Marmiton to the final battle,  Pastoral Causeway let up somewhat, Wrestler attempted to overcome the disadvantage but was penalized by an imperfect landing after the last hurdle. At this point, Marmiton was able to break away and proceed on his own to the finish line, while Wrestler succeeded in beating Pastoral Causeway for secon place.

On the last day of races of the season at the Milan racetrack, the Premi San Siro 2014 were awarded, and a demonstration of hunting on horseback with foxhounds was held, as well as a symbolic cannon shot by the   Horseback Artillery Regiment with a Krup 75/27  howitzer mode 1906. After the winter breack, the San Siro gallop racetrack will resume activities in the second half of March 2015. The last three races on the calendar were not held due to the poor weather and the conditions of the track.
